1- What’s new in our Advocacy work?

  • Systemic risks: On Thursday 15 April, FERMA met virtually with Mr. Didier Millerot, Head of the Insurance & Pensions Unit in DG FISMA at the European Commission, and two policy officers, where we discussed shared resilience solutions (SRS) and proportionality in Solvency II. Progress has slowed in terms of the Commission’s work on SRS, since they are prioritizing work on Solvency II. The Commission is aiming to complete its review of Solvency II by July—FERMA will continue its dialogue with DG FISMA on this important topic.
Regarding SRS, FERMA draws Members’ attention to a recent parliamentary question tabled (here) by Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Alfred Sant (Socialists & Democrats, Malta), which was inspired by a discussion between MEP Sant and FERMA back in November of last year. The Commission’s written reply to the question was not encouraging (here) and mentioned that it continues to explore the topic. FERMA will continue to stress the importance of action at EU-level.
  • Digital: save the date! On Tuesday 8 June, 10:00-12:00, FERMA will hold a ‘Members-only’ discussion on the topic of cyber insurance & risk management, where there will be a presentation of the findings of AMRAE’ s Project LUCY on the quantification of the French cyber insurance market and a proposal to extend the exercise to other countries through our network. An invitation to the meeting will follow.

2- FERMA’s Project on Resilience on its way…

FERMA is working on launching a project on resilience, which will be kicked off with a survey questionnaire in the second-half of May. The objective is to gather data and the state of practices on risk & insurance managers’ involvement in organizational resilience currently, and in keeping with our theme of #risk2resilience.

What we aim to do is highlight how the role of risk managers in resilience will evolve in the future, helping the profession position itself on this topic within their organisations. Watch this space for more and if you would like to discuss this project with us, please contact Charles.

3- European Risk Management Awards 2021: closing of applications end of May

Spread the word among your members: the call for applications for the risk manager categories is open and this year the Special Award ‘Risk Resilience Initiative of the Year” seeks to reward an individual risk manager, a risk management team and/or their collaborative colleagues who have shown excellence in creating and implementing a resilient crisis management and risk strategy. The award is open to private and public sectors, applications for the special awards and all other categories can be submitted until 31 May. Make your nomination here to enter the Awards.

4- A real success for the inaugural Rimap advanced workshop

Last week saw the conclusion of 3 intensive working weeks for the participants of the first Rimap Advanced Workshop.  Reserved for a limited audience of experienced Rimap alumni, the pilot initiative put its focus on the strategic management of a cyber attack.  Following a first positive feedback from the participants, the board will consider whether this new development in the Rimap programme can be continued in the future and in which format. Click here to view pictures.
